Plate (assiette de dessert); hard-paste porcelain; thrown; shallow well and broad, almost flat, rim; decorated with a bearded classical man in profile to right, his feet bare, the lower part of his body covered by a robe; left arm rests on scroll supported on a lectern in front of him; right hand raised to his face; painted in sepia and dark brown heightened in gold on a grey 'marbled' ground, enclosed by a wide gilt band; border decorated with acanthus and palmette design on a dark blue ground between two gilt bands; underside of rim and exterior of foot are gilt; maker's mark.
