This moulded porcelain figure depicts a man with a long black beard, wearing a black scholar’s hat and dressed in an amber-yellow robe with black shoes. He is standing on a textile covered plinth and holds a pair of castanets in his right hand. The figure may be identified as Cao Guojiu, one of the Eight Daoist Immortals. He is depicted as a musician who plays castanets. Originally this would have been one of a set of eight figures.
